There's Too Many of Them!

Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence. -Vince Lombardi
Hey folks. Eat a salad, not because it's skinny people food, because it is good for you. You need some greens. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.
Fit Tip: Don't Get Overwhelmed
There is a lot one can work on when it comes to improving your body. Choosing what type of exercise or workout to do can be overwhelming. Should I work on mobility before anything else since I'm bad at that? Maybe I should just ride the elliptical, I know how to do that. There are so many weight lifting moves where do I start? I am terrible at squatting so I should probably skip that for a while until I know what I'm doing, right?
If questions like these cloud your mind, just get stronger. Getting stronger is always the best place to start, and always a great goal in general. You need muscle for all fitness goals. Stick to the basics of strength training, even if you feel some of your form is suboptimal. We just need passable, not perfect form for a while. A bodyweight anything is a safe exercise. Do some bodyweight squats in a mirror until you are confident to hold a dumbbell for a goblet squat. Maybe you are pretty strong already, but have never used a barbell to squat. Get a friend to help you, or hire a personal trainer for a short while to give you some confidence with the basics. Avoid the clutter of "things you NEED to do" and just hit the strength training basics for a while. Ignore the side quests for now.
What are those basics?
Squats, lunges, pullups (or lat pulldowns), pushups (bench press), overhead press, and maybe a deadlift of some sort. All these exercises have regressions and progressions depending on your skill or strength. Influencers and YouTube shorts will try to convince you that a handful of classic exercises like this is not enough, but don't fall for that or you will be back in the land of 'this is all too much, I will never win.' Lift, eat, and repeat.

White House Autism Announcement
President Trump way overpromised when he teased the announcement about curing autism. What they released was nothing more than an already known suspicion that Tylenol during pregnancy might increase rates. Studies have only show there is an association, no causation; and this is not worth a press conference in my opinion. I look forward to more research being done, and maybe this is just a power move to make the CEO of Tylenol fund some studies on autism research, I dunno.
Luckily, we have a trustworthy source to shed a little bit of light (pun intended) on what we do know about Tylenol's side effects and another possible cause that might be more valuable to research. Check out this update from MedCram: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGaQw5HyX38
September Challenge: Bodyweight Exercise
Time to put the work in, no more excuses. This month we are picking a bodyweight exercise to perform daily. This is the most accessible way to get into strength training. Choose a reasonable number of reps to do each day; something that won't obliterate your muscles, but will still stimulate them a bit.
This week let's try some lunges. You can do walking lunges or a step-back lunge. Challenge yourself to get pretty deep in the lunge position. Well-performed resistance training doubles as your mobility training, and the lunge is a great example.
Win the weekend!
